More Roof Progress

The weather has slowed us down a bit here and there, but we are making good progress on the roof overall. About 60% of the tiles are up. If all goes well, we should finish the project this week.

The new tiles are anthracite in color. My wife insisted on something dark, and I think her instincts were right. The darker tiles lend the house a whole new character. (See photo below for comparison.)

I plan to return to more consistent blogging once this roof project is done.

Looking good. Dark was definitely a wise choice - took years off the age of the house. I replaced my leaking reddish/brown roof with dark shingles a few years ago and it was a massive improvement.

I've been busy building a new workshop these past 3 weeks so havent had time for much else. 12 hour work days, using muscles I dont normally when building cabinets. Nearly tore my ACL last week which has made kneeling down a bit of a chore to say the least

This whole project has been a journey. I been needing this shop for a couple years now, felt necessary to build it myself, always viewed it as bit of a personal transformation, which I planned to build once the time was right and i amassed the necessary funds and the availability to take the time needed off. The knee injury was a set back which immediately after it happened (slipped through the floor joists and twisted my leg), I just sat and prayed for a good 5 minutes as i was convinced i would be incapable of walking for at least few weeks and unable to finish the project, nor resume my regular job.

I took the rest of the day off and kept it on ice. The following day i was unable to comfortably walk nor bend my knee at all, so I did nothing that day but rest.

The next day despite still being crippled I went back at it, taking my time and doing what i was comfortably capable of. A week later now i still have trouble bending my knee but have been able to continue on, finishing the floor, raising the walls, and building all the trusses.

Not much left to do now before it can be used as my new shop. Interesting how the weather, progress on the shop, my injury all corelate when you pay attention. Still making sense of it all. But an exciting journey. Romans 8:28 has constantly been on my mind. It does feel like im more than just building a shop. Youd think it would be an overhwhelmingly large task to take on single handedly, a 55 square meter shop, but yet it hasnt really been. I should be building this at this moment. For the Lord perhaps. We shall see what comes next

David, I'm thrilled to hear about the workshop but sorry to hear about your injury. I've been plagued by a few, too. I sprained my thumb about a month ago. Funny thing is, I don't know how I did it and only noticed it after the fact, as in hours after the fact. It still hasn't healed properly, but I'm hoping it will be better in the next month or so. Like you, I haven't let the injury deter me much. Your journey sounds similar to my pig barn journey of last year. Man, what a journey that was!

I honestly wish I could help you with that workshop (even though it's a meant-to-be a solo project). It would be good to have a cold beer with you after a day of securing trusses or whatever.
