Christians who question or challenge orthodox/traditional/conventional ideas?

Arrogant, spiritually prideful individuals who require humility.

Christians who pugnaciously and unrelentingly assert that the orthodox/traditional/conventional ideas they champion are the only possible Christian truth?

Paragons of spiritual humility.

In my experience, the paragon of humility will usually defend, with equal vigor, some recent/novel understanding of doctrine that is, itself, at odds with the common historical stance — and vehemently insist that this novelty of theirs is, in fact, the pinnacle of orthodoxy!

Pride is a sin, but humility isn't its opposite, nor is humility a virtue.

If we hadn't been told humility was a virtue, often by those with intent to manipulate - it would never cross anybody's mind to suppose it.

Humility may be a virtue, or may be a consequence of (excuse for) cowardice, weakness, laziness, indifference, spitefulness etc.

Also, there is something especially absurd (because self-contradicting) about urging humility upon another person - as you point-out here.

I've never heard this done in a way that avoided the contradiction - even when an accusation of pride was valid.
